Casa GGM is a two-level apartment located in a social housing in Marina di Ragusa.
The project involves the restylig of the interior spaces and the overhaul of the large garden surrounding the building on three sides.
On the ground floor, all functions are integrated within two facing “hyper-furniture” units that define the different spaces:
- kitchen block: designed like a large wardrobe, it separates the service areas from the rest of the open space;
- living room bookcase: a large custom unit shielded by birch plywood sliding panels, allowing for versatile and ever-changing room configurations.
The interior flooring features traditional cement paste tiles sealed and protected with a transparent polyurethane resin finish.
The staircase leading to the sleeping area upstairs is built with a lightweight white lacquered steel structure, birch wood treads, and an aluminum micro-perforated railing. All custom-built furniture throughout the home is made from birch wood and white lacquered MDF.
Outside, the pathways and terraces are finished in smoothed concrete, edged and framed by local stone.
Pergolas made of white-enameled galvanized iron topped with bamboo canes shade the main openings and shield the outdoor lounge areas from the sun.
On the north terrace, a feature wall tiled with a vibrant mosaic of Caltagirone tiles screens the outdoor showers and utility rooms.
Leaning against this decorative wall is the outdoor kitchen which, like the dining table, was custom-made with a steel frame and concrete worktops.
