Casa H is a restyling project of an extensive property located in Scicli, near the coast.
The estate comprises several buildings: an agricultural annex, a main house set over two levels, a guest house, and a spacious pool area.
Since the existing structures were in good condition, the client’s request was for targeted interventions that would respect their original nature and framework, focusing the main efforts on the outdoor spaces.
The design centers on reorganizing the existing pathways. The primary axis, a new entrance driveway aligned with the main house’s living area, creates a scenic passage right through the agricultural annex via a stone archway.
Secondary pathways were redesigned following a detailed landscape analysis to seamlessly connect the different areas of the property.
The core design strategy introduces contemporary architectural elements that complement or overlay the existing buildings and landscape. Most of these additions are crafted in corten steel: the pergolas surrounding the main house and alongside the long infinity pool; the suite extension on the first-floor terrace, which echoes the archetypal forms of traditional sicilian architecture; the retaining structures used to manage the topography of the garden and pool area.
All materials, for both interior and exterior finishes, draw directly from local tradition, ranging from stone paving and lime-based plasters to wood and steel.
Finally, the landscape design is complemented by a tailored outdoor lighting scheme. This enhances the native plants and mediterranean vegetation while highlighting the newly defined outdoor living areas around the house and pool.
