House in Tel Aviv is the redesign of a 1990s villa located in a residential neighborhood of Tel Aviv.
The project was developed in collaboration with the Israeli studio Henkin Shavit for a large family. The goal was to combine traditional materials with a minimalist approach suited to the family’s contemporary lifestyle.
In terms of spatial layout, the design revolves around the transformation of the garden which, especially in a dense city like Tel Aviv, becomes a uniquely exclusive feature.
Since the original residence was elevated above street level, the access and staircase system was reconfigured to bring the garden level flush with the house. This creates seamless continuity between indoor and outdoor spaces, encouraging greater use of the garden as a natural extension of the home.
The outdoor area features pathways meandering through tiered green spaces planted with Mediterranean vegetation. Passing through a lounge area with wooden seating gathered around a fire pit, these paths lead to the new heart of the home: the main garden.
Situated adjacent to the kitchen, this garden seamlessly connects with the interiors and includes an outdoor dining table and lounge zone, all shaded by a wooden pergola that shields from the sun.
The interior design is centered around a custom-built feature cabinetry system positioned between the living room and the kitchen. This multi-functional volume encapsulates the staircase while discreetly housing the home’s essential technology systems. Finally, the furniture and decor were selected from leading international design brands.
